Welcome to the School of Arts and Architecture

Our School

The School of Arts and Architecture (SAA) at Kent is a natural partnership of creative subjects spanning architecture, design, film, media and drama. Whether you're designing new buildings, or creating new theatre, at our core we are all about developing ideas and bringing them to life.

Our Subjects

  • Architecture
  • Art History
  • Centre of Music and Audio Technology
  • Drama
  • Film
  • Graphic Design
  • Journalism
  • Media
  • Planning
  • Spatial Interior Design

Our Research:

The School of Arts and Architecture research community is highly diverse, dynamic and interdisciplinary, benefitting from fertile exchanges between scholars of screen studies, performing arts, media, graphic and interior design, architecture, technology and urban planning. Our overarching aim is to generate excellent research and innovation leading to impact at local, national and international level. At the last REF in 2021, our subjects ranked 9th (Drama, Film, Media, Music, History of Art), and 6th (Architecture, Design and Planning) nationally for Grade Point Average.

Research, Impact, Innovation and Knowledge Exchange in the School of Arts and Architecture engage with the histories, theories and practices of each discipline. We have strengths in the University of Kent’s Priority Research Areas, and expertise in creative health and cultural practices, environment and sustainability, creative heritage as well as in the ways in which the creative and cultural industries contribute to and shape future society.
