We advertise on-campus roles, in outlets such as University of Kent Hospitality, schools and professional service departments, and Kent Students' Union.

You can also find work off campus, in a variety of roles, including:

  • Customer Services - retail shops, restaurants, cafes, hotels and bars.
  • Catering, cleaning, housekeeping -  large hotels, the University itself, and several boarding schools.
  • Languages, tutors and activity organisers - language schools regularly seek part-time English and European Language tutors as well as social activities organisers.

The Careers and Employability Service can help you with finding work - attend a workshop, and get some feedback on your CV at a Quick Advice appointment.

We are currently moving office, so please email us if you have any queries.

The University of Kent recommends that all students do not work in excess of 15 hours per week during term time to ensure that your job is not detrimental to your studies.

If you hold a Student Visa, be sure to check how many hours you are able to work each week in the UK, and when you can and can't work e.g. the term dates differ for undergraduates and postgraduates. You can contact Kent Students' Union Advice Service or visit their advice pages for further guidance.

Please be aware that although most of our vacancies are scheduled to run for up to one calendar month, employers are often inundated with applications and can request that advertisements are taken down sooner than their original closing date. We advise all students to apply for positions at their earliest opportunity.

Yes, all jobs advertised through Jobshop meet the Government’s National Minimum Wage requirements. We do not advertise jobs that are unpaid, commission-based only or have a competition element.

If you intend to work in the UK whilst you study and do not have a National Insurance Number, you must apply for one. Many employers will allow you to start work before your National Insurance Number arrives, providing you are able to prove you have the Right to Work. Full details and how to apply can be found on the government website. The process can take up to 4-6 weeks, so we advise you do this as soon as possible.

Employers will ask you for evidence of your Right to Work if they offer you a job. They will ask to see your passport and any other relevant documents, or ask for a Share Code and use gov.uk to check you have the Right to Work in the UK. You can apply for the Share Code via gov.uk.

Many students have more than one job. If both jobs add up to below the Personal Allowance, you’re entitled to split your allowance between both jobs - contact the tax office to ask them to split your tax code. This is your responsibility and it is in your interest to do so as soon as possible, to ensure that you don’t pay emergency tax on your second salary. You can contact HMRC regarding Income Tax on their helpline: 0300 200 3300.

Jobshop cannot guarantee that employers advertising through the Jobshop will reply to all applicants. We advise that you follow up with the employer after 2 weeks, if you have not had a response.

Jobshop ensures that the jobs advertised to student jobseekers at the University of Kent are lawful, genuine positions. Trust your instincts: if a job sounds too good to be true, it usually is! Top tips:

  • Do your research - research potential job offers and their source to make sure they are genuine.
  • Check Companies House - do they exist, how long have they been trading etc.
  • Check online reviews of the company - Google the company name and the word ‘scam’ to see if anybody has had a negative experience with them. Websites like Glassdoor also provide reviews of companies and organisations.
  • Look out for employers who are asking you to pay money upfront for training, software or equipment when looking/applying for jobs. Employers should never ask you for money.
  • Protect your own data and that of other people, spot phishing messages and other scams. Never provide your bank details when applying for jobs.
