Part time work whilst you study- where to start

Many students choose to work part-time while they are studying, or during the summer vacation. As long as you get the balance right between your studies and the number of hours you work, this can be a positive step.

Where to start

Create a short CV that highlights your skills and experience relevant to part-time work and briefly summarise your education/qualifications.

Jobshop advertises part-time, seasonal and temporary jobs on campus. You can find opportunities on the Uni Kent Careers Hub.

Research companies that offer part-time work

Customer service, retail, hospitality, cleaning and care work are some areas of employment for students, there are 2 main ways to find and apply for this work.

  • Smaller companies usually advertise in their window or take in applications/CVs. Take a well-constructed CV around town and talk to people to access to these jobs. Recruitment for Christmas jobs starts in September.
  • Large companies have online application forms.

Recruitment agencies 

To work effectively with these you need a good CV and to be clear regarding the types of work you are seeking. They manly handle temporary work within hospitality, office administration and more specialist roles. 

Build your experience
