Welcome to the School of Humanities

Our School

The School of Humanities at Kent is a vibrant community dedicated to exploring the human experience through history, literature, creative writing, and the study of ancient civilizations.

By examining the stories, cultures, and events that shape societies, you develop a deep understanding of the world and your place in it.

We cultivate thinkers, writers, and researchers who bring insight and empathy to an ever-changing world, and create graduates equipped with the skills to change it.

Your voice in action

Changes made in the last year in the School of Humanities with help from student feedback.

Also check the Your Uni Your Say webpage to see how student feedback has shaped University-wide changes.

Marking and feedback

  • Clearer marking & feedback for all subjects  – New coversheets in Classics and History link previous feedback with your reflections and provides structured comments against assessment standards.
  • Similarly, in English, marking criteria and guidance have been clarified so you can better understand how your work is assessed and what is expected for each assignment.

Improved online organisation of your course

  • Working with e-learning specialists, we have made Moodle pages more consistent and easier to navigate and find the information and resources that you need to support your learning.

More time to explore concepts

  • More time for your dissertation – Dissertation modules for all Humanities subjects now run across two terms, giving you more time to build your work and explore ideas and concepts in depth.

Subject-specific improvements

  • In English - Stage 1 English students now have additional viva presentations, giving these students more opportunities to showcase learning and skills.
  • In Classics - Classics modules now include library skills sessions to help you use journals, Special Collections, and other resources with confidence.
