What to change rooms?
Room move requests
We know things don’t always work out perfectly - maybe your budget has changed, or your current room just isn’t the right fit. Our goal is to make sure you feel comfortable and happy living on campus. If you’d like to move, our room move and swap programme opens from 3 November to help you find a better match.
£50 Travel Bursary
We know travel costs can add up, especially if you live far from campus. To help with this, we’re offering a £50 travel bursary for residential students whose home is 100 miles or more from either the Canterbury or Medway campus. This bursary is designed to help with the cost of travelling home during the winter term break.
How to apply
Complete the Travel Bursary Application Form by 21 November 2025.
If your application is successful, the Accommodation team will let you know, and you’ll receive the £50 bursary directly into your bank account by mid-December 2025, just before the end of term.
Who can apply?
You’re eligible for the travel bursary if you:
- Are a first-year, full-time undergraduate student who started in September 2025
- Your home address is in the UK
- Have a permanent home address 100 miles or more from the Canterbury or Medway campus
- Are up to date with tuition and accommodation payments
- Applied for, accepted and live in University of Kent accommodation at either Canterbury campus or Pier Quays, Medway
Medway campus
The Hub events & support
Kent Students' Union is part of the Hub partnership of Students' Unions located in Medway (led by Greenwich SU). They run a host of activities throughout the year.
Eating out and nightlife

Get active with free Medway Move classes as well as Sports groups and societies you can join.
Living at Pier Quays
Reception
Pier Quays has a dedicated reception open 24 hours a day to answer your queries as well as keeping any deliveries secure for you to collect at your convenience during opening hours.
On site facilities
Include a laundry room, cycle storage, recreational areas including an outdoor courtyard and two social/study spaces, a Dominos Pizza, Subway and Tesco Express.
Maintenance
If you discover any faults, maintenance issues or damage in your room at Pier Quays you should report them to reception or via the MyUnite App so that they can be fixed.
Security
Pier Quays has electronic entry systems, 24/7 CCTV as well as it's own security team you can contact at any time. You can also download the SafeZone App.
