What is an In Stage Assessment Review?
In Stage Assessment Reviews (ISARs) are termly reviews of your progress in the form of an email to your Kent student email address. The aim is to ensure that you are achieving your best academically and that we are supporting your needs.
The information in the email is taken from your assessment results from the previous term.
1. In Stage Assessment Review outcome frequently asked questions
This outcome reflects that you have achieved a pass mark in the modules you took in your current term and are therefore on a positive track for the remainder of your stage. Please remember that your marks will remain provisional until ratified at your end of stage Assessment Board.
This outcome means that at this point, one or more of your module marks is currently below the pass mark. This means you may be required to resit to retrieve the module credit. If this is required, the Assessment Board will confirm in your end of stage results letter.
We’d recommend that you plan ahead to be available to undertake referral work as either an in-person exam or a coursework submission may be required. There is more detailed guidance on the exam results webpage.
Your academic advisor will also be reaching out in the next few weeks to check in. Ask your advisor for sources of academic support, so that you feel as prepared as you can be for any potential resits, but also so you are prepared for your next term assessments.

If the fails were from a previous academic year, you may have already been given guidance on how to retrieve these credits as a result of a previous Assessment Board.

If the affected module was one that you took as non-contributory, such as an additional language module, your result will be ‘Resume’ as the credits for a non-contributory module are not required for your course.
If the affected module was not one that was taken as non-contributory, please contact your Programme Administration team to discuss.
2. In Stage Assessment Review support frequently asked questions
Your ISAR is designed to provide a milestone on your progress so far, and reflects the modules you took in the current term. The results still need to be ratified at an Assessment Board at the end of your stage. However, this outcome should allow you to reflect on your progress, consider whether you might benefit from support and think about what you may need to do now to ensure you are on track for your next term.
It is important you understand your outcome in context and consider your options. If you need help with this please contact your Engagement Support team or you can speak to an adviser at the Kent Students' Union Advice Service.
If you feel that you need emotional support at any point, the Student Support & Wellbeing team are available during work hours Monday - Friday, and you can also contact Spectrum Life for urgent out of hours support.
If you have not received a outcome by 17.00 on the ISAR outcome release date, please contact your Programme Administration team.
Students with an outstanding Academic Misconduct Case under review and/or submitted work with an extension may not yet have an outcome; this could be after the ISAR in the following term.
You can request feedback on your exam by contacting your module convenor. Their contact details will be available on the module Moodle page.
Mitigation will be considered by the Mitigation Committee for end of stage Assessment Board. Until that point, your marks remain provisional. If you’d like to discuss this further, please request a meeting with your Engagement Support team.
Please contact your Programme Administration team, explaining which module and assessment you are querying, and a brief description of your query.
As this outcome is guided by marks that remain provisional, you will need to wait until you receive your end of stage results to request Early Resolution or appeal.
If you have experienced extenuating circumstances, please apply for mitigation to be considered by the Mitigation Committee ahead of your end of stage Assessment Board.
If you are struggling after viewing your results, especially if you think there may be an issue. If you feel that you need emotional support at any point, the Student Support & Wellbeing team are available during work hours Monday - Friday, and you can also contact Spectrum Life for urgent out of hours support.
Degree Classification can only be calculated after the end of stage results which will be released after the final Assessment Board for your course. See the Quality Assurance's webpages for more information on award calculation.
