Kent Students’ Union and Kent Sport are proud to launch the Racially Ethnic Minority (REM) Sport Inclusion Ambassador role following the success of their #TellYourStory campaign. This paid student position, funded by British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS), aims to address the underrepresentation of REM students in sport by creating opportunities for them to lead change from within.
The REM Sport Inclusion Ambassador will work to increase participation and visibility of racially and ethnically marginalised (REM) students in sport and physical activity at the University of Kent. This student-led role will focus on delivering inclusive sporting initiatives, removing access barriers, and championing the voices of underrepresented students across campus.
The #TellYourStory campaign revealed that REM students at Kent were underrepresented in sports clubs by 12%, highlighting systemic barriers to participation. Nationally, the BUCS Student Active Wellbeing Survey 2024–25 reflected similar trends and confirmed the need for targeted initiatives to increase inclusion and representation in sport.
Building on the campaign’s mission to amplify voices and challenge barriers, the REM Sport Inclusion Ambassador will:
- Design inclusive events and activities
- Engage with student groups to improve access
- Champion diversity and representation across Kent Sport
