Through a big focus on Education Modernisation we’re introducing a new approach to how you study at Kent.
By introducing more core module content we are tidying up timetables so we can get them to you sooner, plus aiming for one day a week free for you to do other things like a part-time job or sport and exercise.
We’ve also got a new course portfolio built around what students are looking to study in the future. Due to this we started phasing out a small number of courses last year, with students on these courses being supported through to the end of their degrees.
The Autumn term will start later than usual:
What students want from university is changing all the time and we want to make sure we’re staying ahead of that at Kent.
This means we have enough income to keep investing in your experience. Through our Size and Shape work, we are looking at what subjects we want to grow and what different things we need to attract UK and international students to Kent.
That means thinking about everything from how quick and easy our processes are when you apply here, to bigger initiatives like our new centre for cultural and creative industries in Medway which shows and celebrate our ambition for the region.
To support all of this we’ve been taking steps to reshape how some of our teams work together, ensuring we prioritise your education and wellbeing throughout. This also reflects us needing to reduce staff costs, taking steps to address the significant financial challenges seen across the sector.
Through this we have a new Academic School structure and are working on new ways to bring support teams together too.
Our ten academic schools bring subjects together, with each Head of School having ownership and accountability for their community.
We’re introducing nine new professional services Directorates to bring existing teams and support closer together. This helps us make savings but is also a chance to make sure all our support teams can be built around what students need, with everything you need in one place.
"I’m really excited by what we can do to transform the campus
through new investment. You've told us you want to see things like more choice, diversity and different outlets for food and drink and partners like Chartwells help make that possible. There's lots to come so watch this space!
These are big changes and we want you to help shape the bits that affect you. There are lots of ways you can do this – email kent2030student@kent.ac.uk
