Gain valuable experience

What is Enhance?

Enhance: The Work Experience Development Programme is a brand new programme for students in the Division of Human and Social Sciences (HSS) to apply for and hopefully gain work experience relevant to their career goals.

The participants will receive tailored support from an Employability Adviser in the Careers and Employability Service. Together, they will identify potential opportunities for work experience and explore how to draft effective applications for these opportunities.

Who is it for?

Enhance is for first- and second-year students in the Division of Human and Social Sciences, especially those who have not completed any work experience before.

The Autumn programme will be open to second-year students and the Spring programme will be open to first years.

Priority will be given to students who belong to the Empower cohort.

What does it involve?

The programme involves a mixture of 1-1 appointments, small group workshops, practice interviews, and reflection activities. Advisers will offer individual, focused support across one university term, allowing for more bespoke advice and feedback.

We hope that all students on the programme will apply to at least one work opportunity, and that the majority of these applications will be successful.

Unfortunately, however, we cannot guarantee that everyone will get work experience.

At the end of the programme, all participants will be invited to the Digital Showcase event to share a piece of work (of their own design and choosing) to express what they have gained from the programme.

How do I apply?

Applications will open in November 2024 for the Spring cohort (first years). The application process involves completing a short online form asking for your motivations and goals.
