Find and use film resources

You can access feature films, TV and radio programmes, video clips and stock footage online via a wide range of multimedia resources.

We recommend:

• Alexander Street Video: high quality educational videos on a vast range of subjects. Watch videos, save clips and make playlists.
• BoB - On Demand TV and Radio for Education (formerly Box of Broadcasts): allows you to view and record a vast number of TV and radio programmes, including films. 
  Available in the UK and to Kent students in Paris, who only have access to BoB resources on playlists created by academic staff at Kent.
• Digital Theatre Plus: high-quality full-length films of leading British theatre productions plus interviews with the cast, the creative and production teams behind each show and documentaries
  
• Kanopy streaming video service: includes over 30,000 documentaries, classic and indie films covering many subjects
• Jove Education & Research: video presentations in scientific research and education. Includes a wide range of demonstrations on using lab equipment, key concepts, methodologies and experiments in scientific fields
• Naxos Music Library: search and listen to over 160,000 CD-length recordings covering classical, jazz, world, classic rock and nostalgia music; includes libretti and biographies
• Screenonline: guide to British cinema and TV history, 1895-present; includes editorial content but no longer any videos
• Videvo (free resource): extensive collection of free music and sound effects, as well as motion graphics and video clips; there's no need to login to download clips and all the content is safe for students to use 

Our DVDs cover a wide variety of subjects, especially performing arts, films, drama and comedy.

Most DVDs are held in the Film Collection on the Ground Floor, Block B (near the Café) in the Templeman Library.

You can borrow DVDs or watch them in the Library:

Individual viewing

• 3 workstations in the Library Café can play DVDs for all regions; you'll need to bring your own wired headphones to use them.
  
• Portable DVD / Blu-ray player kits are available to borrow for up to 72 hours so you can watch films on your own devices - see below for more details.

Group viewing

• Bookable Group Study Room 3 can play DVDs and Blu-Rays of all regions. The room has surround sound and blackout blinds.
• To play DVDs in other bookable Group Study Rooms you need your own laptop with a DVD drive, and a HDMI or DisplayPort cable.
• Seminar rooms TS3 and TS4  have a Region 2 (Europe) Blu-Ray\DVD player and blackout blinds.

DVD / Blu-Ray players are available to borrow for up to 72 hours to view films from the Templeman Library Film Collection, located on the Ground Floor in Block B.

Portable DVD / Blu-ray player kits are available from the Welcome Desk in the Templeman Library. You'll need your KentOne card.

You can find images to use in assignments, research and teaching through these sites:

• Artstor Collections: over a million digital images in the arts, architecture, humanities, and sciences with an accessible suite of software tools for teaching and research.
• British Cartoon Archive: the archive, which is part of the University's Special Collections and Archives, holds the artwork for over 200,000 British editorial, socio-political, and pocket cartoons, supported by large collections of comic strips, newspaper cuttings, books and magazines
• Global Plants: global community-contributed database of plant life. Includes high-quality images and illustrations
• Mass Observation Online: documenting the everyday lives of ordinary people in Britain from 1937 to the early 1970s. Includes posters and photos.

Be aware of the copyright issues related to using images and find free images online.

Most of our microforms are in the Library basement store. Find the item you want in LibrarySearch and click the Place Reservation button.

You can view, save and print microform, but you can't borrow it.

Using microform

• The scanner is opposite the IT & Library Support Desk in C Block, Floor 1
• Kent staff and students can use it until 10 minutes before the Library closes
• Visitors can use it during staffed hours: 09:00–21:00 
• You'll find instructions for using the microform scanner near the machine
• You can save scans of microform to your personal drive on the Kent network or a USB stick
• Print on networked print copy scan machines
