Careers help from the Careers and Employability Service (CES) does not end when you leave the University! We support students for three years post graduation.

Apply for an 'Alumni Login and Registration'

Once you register, you can access our system as an Alumni and do the following:

  • Edit your profile to receive emails and job alerts
  • Let us know where you are on your career journey
  • Use the new AI tools that include: career inspiration tool, CV feedback and video interview tool
  • Book to attend our online events
  • Book a Quick Advice appointment to get feedback on a CV, LinkedIn, application, cover letter, personal statement, interview question etc...
  • Book a Careers Adviser appointment for discussion about next steps in your career path

Graduate Outcomes

In previous years, graduates were surveyed 6 months after graduation to establish the employment rates for graduates from each institution.  From 2017, graduates will be surveyed after approximately 15 months as part of the new Graduate Outcomes survey.  This is a statutory requirement for the University and details of how graduate data is used can be found in the Student Collection Notice.

  • After you leave Kent—whether you graduate or not, and whatever course you’ve done (undergrad or postgrad)—you’ll be asked to complete the Graduate Outcomes Survey about 15 months later.
  • For example, if you leave in summer, you’ll be invited to do the survey between the following September and December.
  • This survey is run by the UK government for all students at every UK university, not just Kent.
  • Once you get the email, fill out the survey online—it only takes about 10 minutes. Doing this means you won’t get follow-up calls.
  • Why it matters: Graduates answers help other graduates see where different subjects can lead, whether that’s further study, jobs, travel, or volunteering.
  • If you get a call, it might come from a number you don’t recognise, and it could be during the day or in the evening.
  • 👥 The calls are made by a company called IFF Research. They’re doing this on behalf of the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and Joint Information Systems Committee (Jisc) on behalf of Kent.

Help a Kent student progress in their career?

The Careers and Employability Service welcomes any offer from graduates of the University to contribute to the knowledge and experience of current students and graduates of the University of Kent. We are happy to facilitate this in a variety of ways and levels of engagement:

Talks on campus

We very much welcome Kent Alumni on to our campus to speak with our students about their industry and experiences. We can provide lecture halls and seminar rooms to give one-to-many presentations, skills session or workshops. The CES promote events via our newsletter, email bulletins, events calendars, Facebook, Twitter and blog.

Employability Festival

Employability Festival encompasses workshops, presentations, guest speakers, industry experts and careers fairs. The aim of Employability Festival is to encourage students to get involved in activities and skills development whilst at university and so, better preparing them for future employment.

Requesting an Academic Reference from the University

You will always be able to ask for a reference from university staff.  For many graduate jobs, or for post-graduate study applications, this will be referred to as an “academic reference” . 

  • Your first point of contact is your Academic Adviser. They will always provide a reference if asked. If they have left their post, or you have any other problems finding or getting in touch with them, please contact your Student Experience Team.
  • Sometimes, you may have worked extensively with another member of academic staff. You may have worked on a project or module with them, or they might have been your dissertation supervisor. Consider who is most relevant to your application, and who you feel knows you best.
  • Always discuss your application with the staff member and share the details of the job or course before nominating them. Send through a link to the job information, and share your updated CV or personal statement, as this helps your Academic Adviser tailor the reference to your strengths. Also, let them know if you would like them to highlight any specific achievements, modules, awards, dissertations or projects.
  • Remember that references need to accurately reflect the information that the University holds about you, therefore not all staff in departments can offer references if they have not worked extensively with individual students.
  • If you are an employer or agency and you need to confirm details such as name, study dates, award and congregating date, we offer an online verification service to verify University of Kent awards. Please refer to the  Higher Education Degree Datacheck (HEDD) service via the Alumni Services page.
